The drop off
Type: Wall
Travel directions: If towing a boat, the easiest slip to reach is Strangford.
Dive Information: A spectacular scenic dive in Strangford Lough at the northern end of the Narrows. Strong tidal currents support the colourful sessile life that lives on the wall. Depth ranges from 10 m at the common entry point to the south of the light on Ballyhenry Island, to 65 m. Visibility is often around 5 m, and the water is dark at depth. Strong tides give a challenging dive, and even at calculated slack water unexpected currents at depth can be encountered. Boat dive only at slack water, and SMBs or dSMBs should be carried by all divers. Should not be attempted as a drift dive as the currents are too unpredictable.
Harbour / slip: Strangford or Portaferry
