Thirteen mile reef
Alternative Name(s): Horseshoe reef and Anchor reef.
Travel directions: Leaving Glasgow on the A82 turn left at Tarbet onto the A83, through Arrocher and over the rest and be thankfull, turn left onto the A815, from this junction its 8.7 miles to the A886 then for 4 miles to the turnoff for the B8000 then for 9.8 miles to Thirteen mile reef. ( Half a mile past Gortein point and just passed triple reef) At Thirteen mile reef the telephone pole has a No 24 on it. Google

Parking directions: Park in the passing place, leaving plenty room for cars to pass.(see picture below)

Site entry/exit: Walk through the gap in the Bushes and down the rocks to enter the water.


Underwater directions: head straight down to 22m and turn right until you come to the wall. Wall runs down to about 36m where it turns into a boulder slope we stopped at 40m. There is a nice big mushroom anchor and chain that hangs over the wall at about 25m.
Site Hazards: Can be a long swim back to shore if following it all the way down. Entry and exit can be tricky if there is a bit of a swell. If there is a flood or ebb tide you have to work hard to stay on the reef.
