Type of Dive: Porthleven is an old fishing port with a drying harbour the town is a great place for a family holiday.

Site Hazards: Diving from the whole lenth of Porthleven beach is dangerous except in complete calm. Entry to the water is easy but the exit can be a lot harder. The wave action here is because of a shelf 10m offshore just below the low tide mark, where the seabed suddenly drops from 1m to 6m.

Other comments: About 150m to the south of the Anson memorial are the broken remains of the steamer Brankelow, which was carrying coal from Cardiff to Russia. There are more than 50 ships recorded lost along this stretch of the Lizard coast, and there is wreckage almost everywhere underwater off Porthleven Sands. The silver wreck San Antonio lies in position 50 03 04; 05 17 01W but is a protected wreck.
