Alternative Names: None Type of Dive: Scenic shallow shore dive in a sheltered bay. This area is also great for snorkelling as it is a large shallow sheltered bay. Its an unusual beach of sand and fossil bearing shale. Suggested experience: Novice upwards its Ideal for safe first Open Water dives, or for underwater photography. Distance from Southampton: 50 Miles 1.5 Hrs From Corfe castle follow Church Knowle rd to Kimmeridge village, then down to the beach. Take note there is a toll charge of £3 on the road to Kimmeridge. From Wareham, follow A351 south towards Swanage. On the outskirts of Stoborough, turn right at signpost to Creech/Kimmeridge. Descend towards Steeple. After 1.6km, turn right for Kimmeridge. Parking directions: There is very little free parking at Kimmeridge but there is parking for a hundred cars In the car park, also there is a large privately managed car parking area just above the beach where a fee is payable at the wardens hut. Get there before 9am, beat the toll lady and park for free. Lat & Long: N50.612752 W-2.130897 Post code BH20 5PF Tides: Tide Tables Depth: Max 5m at High springs, usually 2m Site entry/exit: Its best not to enter the water at the rocks at the car park, walk over to the old slipway and enter at the end of the slipway. Underwater directions: No directions are needed in the bay, just explore the bay. There are ledges made of dolomite running from the shore out to sea, in some places they have overhangs which are great places for a lobster to hide. On a calm sunny day this is a great dive site for u/w photography. Site Hazards: This is a popular surfing beach so when there are good waves with light winds, expect the surfers to get in your way also there are plenty of tourists on the beach in the summer. Other comments: There is an interesting marine centre down by the slipway where non-divers can find out what there is to see underwater. You can Launch a RHiB here as well and dive the well known wrecks of Hm Submarine A3 (N50 31.40 W 002 11.2) The Aleonian sky (N50 36.81 W002 12.43) and the Black hawk (N50 35.08 W002 05.18) There is a good coastal walk for non divers along the clif top.
