Help us stop dolphin drive hunts
Shockingly the victims are not only killed for their meat. Others are selected for Japan's aquarium industry, destined for a life on public display, or for export to countries like China, Turkey and Egypt.
These hunts must end.
Taiji is a small coastal town in Japan that holds the greatest Japanese secret: it is the world’s largest slaughterhouse of dolphins. According to the documentary, over 23 000 dolphins were killed in 2007. The ironic part about this Japanese secret is that the citizens themselves are left in the dark about this industry. Japanese whaling is no secret. In fact, they are widely known as the world’s leader in exporting whale meat. However, due to the 1986 ban on commercial whaling, the fishermen needed new victims. This is where the killing and selling of dolphins grew into a multi-million dollar industry.
