Black Goby

Black Goby (gobius niger) Gobies are numerous in most places around the UK. The black goby is bigger that other gobies and grow up to 17cm long.Slightly fuller body than most gobies, the 1st dorsal fin is taller and more crest like in the male than in the female. Pectoral fins have a few short spiny upper rays which do not reach up to the base of the first dorsal fine. Dark with various marking colour varies with habitat. found over soft subtrates and among sea grasses in shallow water and down to 60m. This photograph was taken at the Finnart ocean terminal Loch Long.
