Piston clips are the preferred method of connecting things when diving there are other clips that get called suicide clips these are carabinas and butterfly clips and they may become accidentally hooked on something, which you may then find hard to remove. Double ended piston clips have the added security if one side gets stuck you can use the other end. Although difficult to find, stainless steel are superior, they don't jam as much as the brass ones or cut your fingers when they are soft from in-water exposure. |

A good way to connect a contents gauge or regulator is to put a cable tie round the hose with an o-ring round it as shown in the picture. This makes a "weak link" which in an emergency can be broken. |

A jon line of the shop type with a Jon Line Clip to attach a Jon Line to any anchor line for decompression and safety decompression stops. The original jon line I made was was 600mm of shock cord (the climbing sort) with a caribina at either end. It was originally made for attaching from the d-ring on my weight belt to a rib when handing the weight belt to the boat. (after loosing one you will get a jon line) It was kept hanging from the d-rings on your weight belt. But then I was using it for hanging on a deco line and for tieing up awkward objects to a lifting bag. Its quite a versatile bit of diving kit. |
