Hoods

Basic 3mm neoprene hood cheap and chearful. But you must remember most heat is lost from your head so you must keep it well insulated. Cheap is not always chearful.

Thicker 5mm neoprene hood gives more thermal protection and with a face seal it helps reduce the movement of water under the hood.

6.5mm Super stretch silverskin hood with 3mm face seals for comfort .This gives more thermal protection and with silverskin it makes it easier to pull the hood on and off and reflects the warmth back towards you.

Compressed neoprene hood with special lining provides excellent thermal protection. but the compressed neoprene is not as flexible.

Some drysuits have hoods attached......

Summary

The most important thing in chosing a hood is the fit. It must fit your head. If water can enter and leave the hood it will cool you head, and cool you down. The face seal should fit neatly and the neck opening should extend over the neck seal on the drysuit. Its also a good idea to have a reflective panel on the top.
