Tarnwater
Type: Coaster

Wreck Information: The Tarnwater was in a convoy on route to Rosyth from Scapa with government stores. A ship from the convoy broke down and my grandfather stopped to give assistance. He had gone down to the engine room and while he was there, a lone German plane arrived suddenly from nowhere and dropped his bombs. The stern section sank first, leaving the fore-end afloat briefly, taking the lives of seven crewmen and one DEMS gunner. Four survivors were picked up by the armed trawler HMS Heliopolis, and taken to Dundee.
